For Finding The Right One

Leaving your pet in the care of a stranger can be a bit daunting.  Our pets are part of our families and their health, safety and care are important.  There are some things you can do to find the perfect pet sitter and ease your mind about your pet’s care while you are away from home.

First, ask family and friends for recommendations for qualified and reliable pet sitters.  Chances are you know someone who has used a pet sitter in the past and perhaps can recommend one that is available when you need one.  Another place to ask for recommendations is your pet’s veterinarian.  The doctor and staff may know of a reliable service in your area.  Perhaps the clinic has heard good reviews about sitters from their clients.   Word-of-mouth can often be a valuable tool when seeking a caretaker for your pet.

Once you have a sitter in mind, check online through sites such as Angie’s List for reviews of the sitter and see if they are listed as a professional sitter at the Pet Sitters International website.  Select a sitter than is bonded and insured and will come to your home for a free consultation.  It is important that your pet and the sitter get along and that you are comfortable with the person.  Face-to-face time will give you a better feel for the individual as well as allow you to ask any questions you may have.
